Pink Shirt Day Breakfast returns to in-person events in Kelowna and Penticton
BGC Okanagan’s celebration of kindness and lifting each other up at the annual Pink Shirt Day Breakfast presented by TELUS will return to an in-person event this year with activities held in Kelowna and a hybrid event in Penticton on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Retired NHL player, author and professional speaker Aaron Volpatti will be the special guest at the event in Kelowna at the Laurel Packinghouse. He will share his story of perseverance having made it to the NHL after suffering horrific burns on 40% of his body after a campfire accident. His inspirational talk will be live-streamed to those at the Pink Shirt Breakfast event in Penticton, which will be held at Penticton Secondary School.
“I am extremely honoured and humbled to be a part of Pink Shirt Day for BGC Okanagan. By spreading kindness, respect, and inclusion, we can truly make the world a better place,” said Volpatti.
Pink Shirt Day has always been a meaningful day for BGC Okanagan, as it follows their core values of belonging, respect, encouragement and support, working together and speaking out.
“BGC Okanagan has been leading the kindness movement in the Okanagan for 14 years. We know that it is imperative to help our kids and the community learn and understand why kindness, caring and treating each other with respect, empathy and compassion is the way to prevent the mistreatment of others,” said BGC Okanagan CEO, Jeremy Welder.
The goal is to reach $40,000 in donations that will assist BGC Okanagan to offer programs that support children and youth in learning empathy, caring, understanding, inclusion, diversity and community engagement. It will also help continue to provide safe spaces where BGC Okanagan can provide systemic opportunities to all children and youth.
Thanks to TELUS, and other community supporters, BGC Okanagan can offer these two events that will take place on Feb. 22 from 7-9 a.m.
