Central Okanagan Foundation Lends a Hand

The Central Okanagan Foundation (COF) is a community foundation providing an ongoing contribution to the quality of life in our community through building an endowment, grantmaking, and community leadership. We bring donors and charities to provide for the needs of the community today, and tomorrow, and forever.  Through their generous contribution we have been able to fund a Social and Emotional Learning Program called To Be Honest through the 2019-2020 school year. This program teaches youth 12-24 years old social awareness, self-awareness, self-management, healthy decision making, and relationship skills in an interactive way using crafts, activities, and technology to reach them.

Thanks to their $15,000 grant, the To Be Honest Program will be able to reach an increased number of youth in Kelowna and West Kelowna schools who need the support to grow. Youth have been given the chance to develop the skills they need to be happy healthy humans. By using a variety of curriculum such as Lions Quest, Take It Easy – Boys and Girls Clubs, Merrell’s Strong Teens, TASK: Teen Anger Management Skills – Salvation Army, and Let’s Talk Digital – Boys and Girls Clubs, the To Be Honest Program has been able to offer Social and Emotional Skills to youth in different ways. Through the support of the COF, the To Be Honest Program has been able to formally partner with different schools in School District 23 and strengthen the Social Emotional Learning Team. Because of the COF we are developing strong relationships with youth and providing support and guidance to help them navigate life’s challenges and find their own positive path. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
