Virtual Recreation Program Helps Children Develop Healthy Habits in the Okanagan
Fun science experiments, games, crafts and activities to get you moving – all from the comfort of your own home.
All this and opportunities to win great prizes, happens virtually (over Zoom) with our Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan Virtual Recreation team.
The BGCO is proud to be running four different virtual programs for Club members across the Okanagan Valley. Registered participants also receive a free membership to the BGCO.
- Virtual Recreation participants can get active and learn about healthy eating habits during the Cool Moves (for ages 6 to 12) program.
- Join in for fun crafts, games and activities during the Kids Club (for ages 6 to 12) virtual program.
- In the Discovery Lab program (for ages 8 to 12) kids will get an activity kit and follow along virtually as the recreation team conducts fun experiments.
- Join us for Take It Easy where our staff help increase self-esteem and confidence through fun activities and games (for ages 10 to 15).
Cool Moves is a program that creates a life-long appreciation for a healthy, active lifestyle by encouraging children to make healthier eating choices, empowering them to engage in more physical activity, and gives them the skills they need to practice healthy habits for the rest of their lives. Each participant receives a kit with a snack food and activity plan. A different challenge is given each week and participants can earn points and a chance to win a gift card at the end of the program. While the program has started, you can easily catch up by heading to our YouTube channel to watch the videos and challenges.
“Ensuring children have the knowledge they need to make healthy choices is a priority at Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan,” said Mary McDonald, BGCO program manager of Recreation Programs. “We are proud to launch Cool Moves to improve the health of children and families in our community, along with the rest of our virtual programming to continue to engage children and help them feel connected to peers.”
