Testimonial: BGC Okanagan guides family through stressful time
The following is a written testimonial from a parent utilizing services offered by BGC Okanagan for themselves and their children. This is in their words and only the names have been omitted to protect their privacy.
I am writing as I would like to share my experiences from the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan.
From the first moment that I spoke to staff they were so supportive, so understanding and so willing to help in any way possible. At this time I had just got my children out of a bad situation.
I do not have any family locally, so I had no support with COVID-19 in place stopping travel. I had my back to the wall trying to do what’s right for my children and keep them in a happy and healthy environment.
I explained to BGC Okanagan staff that at times “it feels like me versus the world.” Their response was, “well you are not alone, and we are here to help.” I will never forget those words. Actions can also speak louder than words, to which BGC Okanagan staff achieved in any way they could. Amazing, I would even say, is an understatement when speaking about the staff.
They helped me come up with goals for the support they were going to offer me and my children.
The BGC Okanagan staff were people I could talk to, trust, release stress and frustrations all while going through a lengthy, difficult process to make sure my children were safe. They offered support, advice, parenting tips, suggestions of local programs that the children could get involved in and even programs for myself. Without their help, support and understanding I honestly don’t know how I would have made it through the most stressful time of my life.
The staff is continuing to offer me support as a single, full-time parent. They are giving me advice and options to help my children’s growth in any way.
It is my belief that a great organization begins and ends with the people at the top and the staff that are not only representing them, but further representing the organization to which this case is BGC Okanagan. I am so thankful for all of the support offered by the entire organization.
