BGC Club Day celebrates 125th anniversary of BGC Canada
Join us on Friday, June 6, as BGC Okanagan celebrates BGC Club Day – a national awareness day that not only celebrates the 125th anniversary of BGC Canada but also highlights the opportunities BGC Clubs across Canada create for 150,000 young people and their families each year.
Formerly known as Boys and Girls Club of the Okanagan, BGC Okanagan provides safe spaces for children and youth. Our programs help young people realize positive outcomes in self-expression, academics, healthy living, physical activity, job readiness, mental health, and more. We believe that opportunity changes everything and see this happening in our Club every day.
What is our impact?
In celebration of BGC Canada’s 125th anniversary, and our Club’s 66th anniversary, we reflect on the impact our Club has had on our community and how the national network has transformed the lives of young people. BGC Okanagan surveyed children and youth at our Club about how their time at our Club has impacted them:
• Because of a Club, 90% of our kids are more aware of the feelings of others.
• Because of a Club, 92% of our kids have more people they like to spend time with.
• Because of a Club, 90% of our kids are more confident.
• Because of a Club, 86% of our kids are more physically active.
The Club’s impact on young people stays with them throughout their lives. Former Club kids, volunteers, and staff members often share stories of their cherished Club memories and tell us about the Club’s unbelievable impact on their lives. On #BGCClubDay and in honour of BGC Canada’s 125th anniversary, we celebrate the opportunities we create for young people.
