Pink Shirt Day Breakfast in a Box Campaign launch
It’s been a year of shifting to new ways to do things for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan, and also a time to remind everyone that showing compassion and being kind is more important than ever.
It is why the annual Pink Shirt Day in-person event, traditionally held in Kelowna, will continue with a fresh take. On Feb. 24, the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan will celebrate Pink Shirt Day virtually and have organized a Pink Shirt Day Breakfast in a Box, presented by TELUS. This year’s event will include participation across the entire Okanagan Valley. Tickets are now available to purchase a breakfast in a box, which will be filled with breakfast food and other surprises, at boysandgirlsclubs.ca.
“Pink Shirt Day was the last in-person event the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan hosted in 2020. While the currently realities do not allow us to have an in-person event so far in 2021, it has inspired us to think about a great way to come together socially, yet still be apart physically to celebrate Pink Shirt Day,” said Richelle Leckey, Community Engagement Coordinator, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan.
The goal is to reach $20,000 in donations that will assist the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan to offer programs that support children and youth in learning empathy, caring, understanding, inclusion, diversity and community engagement. It will also help continue to provide safe spaces where every young person belongs, no matter what their circumstance.
“Our goal is to ensure we are continuing the kindness movement and working toward eliminating bullying,” said Jeremy Welder, CEO, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan. “Now more than ever, we all need to be part of helping the people within our communities feel cared for, understood, supported and included.”
Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan is the leading provider of programs to children and youth that support over 8,100 young people and their families each year. Club programming includes technology, the arts, leadership, life skills and many programs also provide meals, emergency shelter, family support and other support networks for the community.
TELUS Pink Shirt Day Breakfast in Box tickets are now available for purchase, and donations being accepted, at https://trellis.org/pink-shirt-day-breakfast-in-a-box-presented-by-telus. A purchase of a ticket will get you a beautiful pink box filled with pink items, breakfast food and other surprises. Boxes will be available for pick up in Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton. Those who purchase, will receive more information about picking them up prior to Pink Shirt Day on Feb. 24. Details for participating in a short, virtual kick-start for the day and ideas for how to celebrate the day will also be included in the box.
